East Riding Sacks Limited is the largest independent paper sack producer in the United Kingdom and one of the major sack producers in Europe supplying flour, agriculture, cement/building products, minerals & food industries.

We are based near Pocklington, East Yorkshire, YO41 1HS (5 miles from Pocklington, 12 miles from Market Weighton, 13 miles from York, 20 Miles from Driffield and 23 miles from Beverley).

We are now recruiting for a full time, permanent Assistant Bag Machine Operative to join our existing team working initially on day shift and moving on to on a three-week rotating shift system.

Rates of Pay:
Initial training rate: £13.99 per hour
After completion of training: £14.20 per hour (day shift only)
Rotating day/night shift rate: £16.40 per hour
Hours of work: 7:30am to 4:00pm (days)
Shift hours of work: 6:00am to 6:00pm and 6:00pm to 6:00am (12-hour shifts on a three-week rotating system)

Purpose of the job:
To assist with the operation small bag machine, undertaking quality control checks on finished product, boxing-up and labelling of finished product.

Principal Accountabilities:

Assistant Bag Machine Operator duties:
-Examine the bags prior to packaging, to ensure quality standards are maintained at all times.
-Place bundles of bags into boxes.
-Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed boxes, using pallet trucks.
-Make sure that the correct number of bags are in each box.
-Label boxes and pallets.
-Load pallets of boxes onto the roller conveyor.
-Responsible for isolating any quality defects identified during production, i.e. gluing issues, misprints, formation issues.
-Ensure there are sufficient stocks of boxes and pallets available in the bagging area.

Principal Knowledge/Skills/Abilities required:
-Understanding of relevant quality control procedures Health and Safety Product Safety Requirements and material specifications.
-Understanding of the bagging process and quality requirements
-Aptitude for manual mechanical work.
-Ability to work with others.
-Competent in verbal and written communication and reading.
-Basic numerical ability.

No formal qualifications required

Training needs:
In-house training is provided in accordance with a separate Training Programme for this job.
